Practice with Anatomical Terms
Students practiced their anatomical and directional terms by placing stickers in the correct anatomical location. This fun review builds teamwork and collaboration among partners in groups, and even between groups!
Classroom Organization and Procedures
Handouts Bin
Students know as they come into the classroom to check their class space for any handouts they may need during the class period. This allows me to spend more time on direct instruction and gives students a sense of ownership over their space. Students also may choose to grab extra copies from this space. This location serves as the home base for the hall pass and sign out sheet.
“What Did I Miss?” Bins
If a student was absent for class, they should check this space first for any potential handouts before coming to speak with me. Students also can go to this resource if they have lost a paper or need an extra copy of something. It is organized by date and helps keep both students and me organized!
Inclusive Classroom Decor
In my classroom, I have a wall featuring women in science, technology, engineering, and math. I rotate the featured scientist weekly to biweekly, making sure to highlight women of various different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Medical Terminology Word Wall
During Medical Terminology, vocabulary terms are added to the wall as we learn them for student reference. They are removed at the end of the unit, before the unit exam. Students are allowed to move and use the terms to practice building words, if they choose. It is also used for review purposes.
Student Work Example & Birthday Shoutouts
This space on the wall is filled with rotating student examples. Students have a sense of pride and ownership over their work, and other students look forward to seeing what they will be learning in the coming courses.
All students are given the opportunity to have their birthday (or half birthday, if we are not in session for their birthday) listed on the board for their entire birthday month.
